Ah, the shoes! Ah, the clothes! Ah, Mr. Big! And, of course, the girls!
My friends and I had been awaiting the Sex and the City movie since, well, since the series finale in 2004. We lived for HBO Sunday nights. We would have Sex and the City parties and relive seasons over Cosmos, food and sweets! We even called ourselves the girls. I was, of course, Carrie being the writer and all, my one friend was Charlotte because of her often sweet, slightly prudish, hostess with the mostess and girly-girl persona and my other friend was Samantha because of her boldness. ( We've always been missing a Miranda-although, my one Charlotte friend often displays Miranda-like qualities).
I had read a lot of mixed reviews about the movie. Some good, some mediocre and some just plain bad. But, the movie was PERFECT in every way. The film was full of eye candy and clothes that made me sick because they were too fabulous to stomach. Samantha was, surprisingly and in my opinion, the fliest chick of them all in the movie. However, Carrie was her usual fabulous self. Charlotte was cute as always. Even Miranda had become a fashion maven.
The movie is like a two and a half hour episode which I loved. Michael Patrick King stayed true to the essence of the women and the show. But, it was a fresh and updated version. I can only figure that the critics who hated the film could not have possibly been fans of the HBO series. It was everything the show was but MORE!
I won't give away any of the plot, just in case you haven't seen it, but it kept my friends and I engrossed from beginning to end. We laughed. We cried. We laughed some more. And, yes, at the end of the night what did we do? We did what we always do after watching Sex and the City. We enjoyed Cosmos-as Samantha says at the end of the movie, "An oldie but goody."
p.s. SATC was the number one movie at the box office this weekend. Check out the results in this NYTimes article...
