This has been the most amazing summer EVER!!! I've had so much fun partying with my friends, visiting places like MOCAD (Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit), freelance writing (p.s. Check out my article about the comedy scene in the Detroit version of 944 magazine's September issue), and most of all, doing comedy! I have been performing often and loving every minute of it. I am falling deeper and deeper in love with the art form every day.
I am so grateful to the Almighty for the opportunity to do what I love to do and to have been afforded the freedom to do what I love more often when my employment situation changed back in December of last year.
I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year turns into (please check my previous post for upcoming showdates this year). I have an audition for a touring theater in a couple weeks. I am really looking forward to that and I hope that I get it! I also have a test that week to work as a clerk in an office. I haven't been in an office environment in 9 months but I am hoping a regular schedule during the day will free my evenings to focus on telling jokes and my theatrical endeavors.
Also, I am hoping to do more freelancing. I have a lot of ideas. The challenge is to get the editors I pitch to be as excited about the content I want to write about. But, most of all, to get them to return my emails. They are really busy people and it's a challenge to even get a response from them at all sometimes.
The plan for the rest of the year is just to write and perform as much as possible. But, to also have an active social life because I find that provides inspiration for me-observing people and situations is the best thing for a writer/actor/comedian. For instance, last night I took myself to dinner at the amazing Inyo in Ferndale, MI and had sushi. In the meantime, a group of drunk women were also at the bar and provided a lot of ideas for future jokes. If I hadn't been in that social situation I wouldn't have the inspiration I had last night to write a couple new jokes about drunks! LOL...
Life is good and full. As always, I just hope to continue to grow and evolve as an artist and person. I am hoping to move to Ferndale, MI in the next few weeks so that I can be in a socially thriving and artistic environment and I am hoping for a new job ("a regular job") until the HBO special comes along :) By the way, if dreams come true and I ever get my own comedy HBO special it would be called, "Everything Is Better in Heels." Anybody who knows me knows how I do love my heels.
Anyway, thanks for reading and supporting and I hope to see you at a show...Or, a bar where your drunk and I can write jokes about you. *smile*
