Happy New Year everybody!
Last year was quite a year. There were quite a few personal and professional setbacks for me. Let's just say, everything and everyone aren't what they appear to be. The beautiful thing is that despite the disappointments I endured in 2012, God was there to keep me going and in every loss, heartbreak or trial, there is a blessing somewhere in there.
Last year, I was blessed to figure out what truly makes me happy and that is in helping other people and doing it in a way that incorporates the arts -- specifically, theater.
"Shakespeare Against Cancer" is a way for me to honor my aunt who passed away this month last year in a meaningful way. Every time we do a show for the amazing kids throughout the Metro Detroit area, I feel closer to her because she loved children and she loved the arts.
By the way, if you want to learn more about the program, please, tune in to WJR 760 AM this Sunday, January 6 at 10 a.m. I was able to share the inspiration behind the program and what we do on the "Champions of Care" program for the Everyday Heroes segment of the show. I hope you can tune in and if you want to find out how you can be a part of Shakespeare Against Cancer, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or find us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shakespeare-Against-Cancer/145172988960267 .
SAC has most definitely been the most amazing part of 2012 for me. It's unfortunate that my aunt is gone, but she lives on with every performance and every kid we touch. We hope to do more shows and make the program even better in 2013.
This year, in addition to my charitable entertainment endeavors, I hope to also produce other shows in and around Detroit. More on that later....
I hope to bring you more theater reviews from some of the amazing theaters in Southeast Michigan. This is a really talented town and I love being able to witness the amazing actors and artisans this area has produced do their thing. It makes me proud.
I recently heard someone say, "Don't tell me what you want to do, show me what you can do." So, I'll just show you rather than write all of my plans here.
It's going to be an exciting year and I hope you'll stay tuned!
